The then newly introduced Chevrolet Monza was supposed to be the answer to the German Porsche in the 1970s and become a racing machine. The race car made its debut in 1975 at the Road Atlanta race. After a short time, the Dekon Monza retired from the race after an accident. Exactly one year later, the race car then celebrated its first victory at Road Atlanta.
