A new generation of programmable electronic microprocessor speed controllers KAVAN Plus for brushless, sensorless motors, developed using the latest semiconductor technology to ensure high performance and ease of use. The ESCs in the Plus line are ideal for all "Sontagsflieger" / sports model airplanes powered by brushless motors and LiPo/Li-Ion/LiFe and NiCd/NiMH batteries. The controller has a powerful clocked UBEC, which ensures a reliable power supply for your receiver and servos. With the optional KAVAN LED programming card Pro (sold separately; the same as for the KAVAN PRO ESC series), programming your ESC becomes child's play.

  • Calibration of the choke range to match the signal of your remote control.

PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS

  • Brake modes: Normal brake off, normal brake on (3 brake force levels selectable), reverse brake (forward/reverse rotation is selected via an auxiliary channel with 2-position switch on your transmitter, the speed is controlled via the throttle, linear reverse brake (reverse rotations are controlled by a proportional control assigned to an auxiliary channel of your transmitter)
  • Braking force: Braking force adjustable to 60/90/100 % (only in normal braking mode).
  • Voltage cut-off types: Soft Cut Off: After selecting this option, the controller gradually reduces the power to 60 % within 3 seconds of activating the undervoltage cut-off protection. Hard Cut Off: The controller interrupts the output immediately.
  • LiPo cells: The controller automatically calculates the number of LiPo cells you have connected according to the "3.7 V/cell" rule when "Auto Calc." is activated. However, you can also set everything manually.
  • Cut-off voltage: When switched off, the undervoltage protection function is deactivated. If this option is activated, the protection voltage threshold can be set to 2.8 V/cell, 3.0 V/cell or 3.4 V/cell.
  • Throttle response time: This sets the throttle response time of the ESC acceleration from 0 % to 100 %. Normal/soft/very soft each correspond to approx. 200 ms/500 ms/800 ms.
  • Timing: Can be set to 5/15/25 °.
  • Active freewheel (DEO): This item can be set between "Enabled" and "Disabled" and is enabled by default. If this option is activated, you can achieve better throttle linearity or a smoother throttle response.
  • Search Mode: After selecting this option, the ESC will cause the motor to beep when the throttle is held at 0% and will continue to do so for a set time.
  • BEC voltage: Selects the BEC output voltage 5.0/6.0/7.4/8.4 V.

PROTECTION FUNCTIONS

  • Start-up protection: The ESC monitors the motor speed during the start-up process. If the speed no longer increases or the speed increase is not stable, the ESC evaluates this as a start-up error. If the amount of throttle is less than 15% at this point, the ESC will automatically attempt to restart; if it is greater than 20%, you must first move the throttle back to the lower position and then restart the controller.
  • ESC overheating protection: The controller gradually reduces the power to 60%, but does not switch it off if the controller temperature rises above 120 °C (soft cut-off mode)/the ESC switches the motor off (hard cut-off mode).
  • Protection against signal loss: If the controller detects a signal loss of more than 0.25 seconds, the output is interrupted immediately. The ESC resumes operation when normal signals are received.
  • Overvoltage protection: The controller switches off or restarts automatically if the load suddenly reaches a very high value.
  • Low voltage protection: If the battery voltage is lower than the cut-off voltage set by the controller, the controller triggers the low voltage protection. If the battery voltage is set to soft cut-off, the battery voltage is reduced to a maximum of 60% of the full power. With the "Hard Cut-Off" setting, the power is interrupted immediately.
  • Protection against non-regular input voltage: If the battery voltage is not within the input voltage range supported by the controller, the controller triggers protection against non-regular input voltage and the controller triggers an alarm on the motor.

Tip: Switching on the controller for the first time: Calibrate the operating range according to the instructions in the manual. Only then can you use the controller normally or set the programmable parameters via your transmitter or the KAVAN LED programming card PRO.
