Programmable robot equipped with "BBC micro:bit" board

The teaching kit is the perfect introduction to the world of "MINT" subjects. MINT stands for mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology. In the English-speaking world, it is referred to as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). The caterpillar robot kit combines precisely these areas, from assembly and operation to the user's own programming of the controller. The robot with the microcomputer learning board "BBC micro:bit" is equipped with an ultrasonic sensor and a dual motor control system. If an obstacle is detected by the ultrasonic sensor, the "BBC micro:bit" unit receives this information and controls the two motors in the dual gearbox accordingly. A basic driving program already installed runs automatically and the robot avoids the obstacle. In the process, the two chain drives are controlled separately. A crank-shaped sprocket wheel, which is in contact with the chain, moves the left and right arms up and down during travel, producing typical robot behavior. The upper part of the robot consists of a light gray clear body part, so you can easily see the LEDs of the "BBC micro:bit" unit. The LEDs show which program has been selected before starting. The crawler chassis as well as the chassis fairing are made of sturdy plastic. With the help of the illustrated and multilingual instructions, the microcomputer robot can be easily assembled and put into operation. With the freeware "MakeCode" the robot brain, the "BBC micro:bit" unit, can be programmed according to your own ideas, following the weblink. (https://makecode.microbit.org/#). The following tools are required for assembly: side cutters, model making knife, screwdriver (+/cross slot) medium and screwdriver (+/cross slot) large.

  • Programmable microcomputer "BBC micro:bit". The assembled robot has the following dimensions: Length: 136 mm, width: 128 mm, height: 116 mm.
  • The high-quality kit from Tamiya must be assembled independently.
  • The independent assembly is accompanied with the help of a step-by-step or illustrated assembly instructions. The assembly instructions are of course included in the delivery.
  • Based on the assembly instructions, the precisely fitting individual parts must be assembled. Painting of the parts can be done according to your own ideas, but is not necessary. The plastic parts are already colored.
  • Tools, glue and paints are not included in the kit. These must be purchased optionally.
