Two years after the earth-shaking victory of the FANTOM EP-4WD on its debut, the "FANTOM EP-4WD Ext" stunned the world when it accomplished the same feat against an even stronger field at the 1985 Japanese Championship. At this time, track conditions were improving and race formats were changing from fiery 4-minute races to 8-minute endurance races. The "FANTOM EP-4WD Ext" was developed to meet this trend. Kyosho was the first company to introduce the 4WD system with chain and one-way drive developed for 1/8 motor models to 1/12 electric racing cars. The front one-way system made it possible to apply power earlier in the corners, allowing for a more aggressive driving style. On the other hand, energy efficiency did not improve and the system tended to stall when power was removed. In the Ext, the high-dimensional fusion of the 3P suspension reinforces the weak points. The 2.2mm of travel is realized by specially shaped springs that create a "progressive spring effect" by compressing the suspension according to the rolling motion of the chassis as it enters a corner and then extending it when it starts to tip too much to minimize stalling when power is off. At the same time, energy efficiency is improved by reducing the time the power is on. The main chassis has been improved with a further developed front suspension, which offers greater rigidity thanks to a reinforcement plate at the front that allows the suspension to move optimally. By integrating the Direct Servo Saver into the steering servo, the front load is increased so that the chassis can be shaped so that the rear rolls and tilts flexibly in sync with the front. For tilt control, an oil damper is added to improve rear ground contact. Weight reduction was a priority in the development of the Ext, and at 880g it was lighter than the first generation. The commitment to low weight remains in this relaunched version, which is equipped with lightweight steering knuckles and wheel nuts. • Redesigned for ESC compatibility in place of the original's speed controller, allowing the combination of brushless motor and ESC. The front plate has mounting holes for the Le Mans 240S ESC.
• The newly developed, machine-cut aluminum steering servo offers an adjustable mount to suit different sizes.
• A newly developed direct servo saver with a double annular spring provides improved reliability and a direct steering feel.
• The milled aluminum rear axle features a height adjustment mechanism that was not present on the original. Vehicle height and chain tension can be adjusted.
• The long sprocket with 48 pitch and 21 teeth is included as standard. 14T to 27T are available in standard form as an option.
• The front and rear tires have been changed from the original sponge to a rubber/sponge compound, which significantly improves grip and reduces tire wear, which was a problem with the original.
• The CRC-II body, which is popular with racers and with which Junichi Koma achieved the first victory for the FANTOM in the 1985 Japanese Championship, has been faithfully reproduced. Creates excellent aerodynamic balance.
