he Land Rover Series II A was unveiled at the 1958 Amsterdam Motor Show, a full decade after Land Rover had begun producing cars and its Series I sibling had made its debut at the same event. The design team responsible was led by David Bache, who would later release other groundbreaking designs such as the Range Rover and the Rover SD1. He and his team designed the Land Rover Series II in just six weeks and were praised for its simple and functional design. The basic shape and functionality of the vehicle remained a key feature in all subsequent versions, and the "rounded shoulders" became an essential and iconic Land Rover design feature. The Series II also received deeper sills that concealed the chassis beams and gave the vehicle a less utilitarian appearance, as well as the characteristic curved glass at the rear corners of the cab. In 1969, the front headlights were moved from the grille to the fenders due to a legal requirement. Annual production peaked at 56,000 units per year in Solihull in 1971, and a total of more than half a million models were produced during the 13 years that the Series II was in production.
