The Ulises was a salvage tug for use on the high seas. In the 60s of the last century, there was an extremely busy trade traffic on the seas.
Merchant ships were exposed to many dangers from storms and rough seas, and salvage tugs were of vital importance, ensuring that wrecked ships made it safely to the nearest port. At that time, metal was the predominant material used in shipbuilding. The hardness of steel was exploited in the construction of the hull, while wood was used to cover the steering and crew areas. This combination gave the ships a particularly beautiful appearance, beyond their actual use as simple utility ships.
