Tamiya 24027 Renault 5 Turbo 1975 Rally, plastic kit, 1:24

The Renault 5 Turbo was a special version of the legendary Renault 5, specially developed for rallying. Instead of a rear bench seat, this powerhouse housed a 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engine, which was positioned centrally. Thanks to its reinforced, independent double wishbone suspension on all four wheels, the turbo mastered every challenge with precision.

The lightweight 3-door body made of aluminum and plastic elements ensured an exceptional power-to-weight ratio. Visually, the Renault 5 Turbo set new standards: wide wings, integrated bumpers with air deflectors and a striking roof spoiler gave it an unmistakable appearance that was clearly different from the original Renault 5. Its big moment came in 1981, when the works car took the first global rally victory of the year and from then on was regularly to be found in the top times.
