The Bismarck, her sister ship was the Tirpitz, was commissioned in August 1940. She entered service under the command of Kapitän zur See, Ernst Lindemann, and was the largest and most powerful battleship at the time. She could reach a top speed of 30.1 knots (about 56km/h). Her armament consisted of eight 380mm QFG L/47 twin guns, twelve 150mm QFG L/55 twin guns, 16 105mm L/65 A/A and 16 37mm A/A and 12 20mm A/A guns.
She sank in late May during World War 2 after heavy fighting with British Royal Navy units, along with most of her crew, in the North Atlantic.
