The Friesland, built in 1663, was a second-rate ship. Armored with 80 cannons, she belonged to the large fleet of the United Provinces of Holland. Under the command of De Ruyter on board the admiral ship "Zeven Provincien", the Friesland was engaged with 77 other ships in the naval battle of Solebay against the French and English. The model drawings are based on rich original documentation available in Holland; the model is characterized by particular attention to detail in the design of the stern decoration and bridge superstructures.
The model is exceptionally richly detailed. The kit includes an extraordinary amount of metal ornaments, decorations and largely prefabricated parts. The model has a 2nd planking.
